Product description

Sky-Watcher's clever and innovative SolarQuest™ mount makes solar tracking exceptionally easy by automatically locating and tracking the Sun. To begin, simply set up the tripod to be fairly level and point your solar telescope slightly to the left of the Sun. Sky-Watcher's revolutionary HelioFind™ solar observing technology will handle the rest. By pressing a single button, the telescope levels itself, and the mount calculates the altitude and azimuth of the Sun using GPS data based on local time and site coordinates. The telescope then slews to the required elevation, and the mount searches for the Sun in a clockwise direction. The integrated solar sensor detects the Sun and ensures that it subsequently remains securely in the eyepiece's field of view.

This mount is an excellent aid for observing sunspots, solar eclipses, fine surface details on the Sun, and solar transits of the inner planets. The SolarQuest is highly portable and quiet in operation. It is battery operated using 8 AA batteries, but can also be powered via an external power supply (DC 12V, tip positive).

Usage Recommendations: This mount can be ideally combined with a small refractor, such as an apochromatic refractor (e.g., 66/400 ED OTA). When paired with appropriate star diagonals, eyepieces, and a certified solar filter (such as a Baader AstroSolar 65mm filter), you can safely view the Sun in white light. For an enhanced experience, combining the refractor and SolarQuest mount with a specialized solar filter (like a DayStar QUARK Calcium-H-Line or H-alpha filter) allows safe observation of the active Sun's chromospheric details. This creates a highly versatile modular system for multi-wavelength solar observation.
