Product Description

The disc is manufactured to a high standard and specially designed for use with Homestar Pro. Its main theme is the Paranal Observatory, an astronomical observatory in Chile located in the Atacama Desert on Cerro Paranal at an altitude of 2635 m. The site is dry and flat and remote from sources of light and dust, while remaining easily accessible. The European Southern Observatory (ESO) built and operates a series of telescopes at this location.

The Very Large Telescope (VLT) is the largest telescope on Paranal. It consists of four separate 8.2 m Unit Telescopes and four additional 1.8 m Auxiliary Telescopes. The telescopes can be combined to form the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). The combined interferometer is 25 times more accurate than the individual instruments.

In addition to the VLT, Paranal hosts three survey telescopes. An ESO hotel, the Residencia, is also located at the site to accommodate staff. The hotel was used as a backdrop for the 2008 James Bond film “Quantum of Solace”. The Milky Way is clearly visible, while the green-blue airglow adds colour to the dark night sky.

This disc comes with a Scenic foreground showing palm trees near a beach. Instead of a deserted mountain landscape, the palm-tree foreground creates a more romantic scene for viewing the projected sky.

Scenic discs consist of two parts. The main disc displays the actual theme, while a second disc provides a foreground, such as trees. When the motor is switched on, only the main disc rotates while the foreground remains stationary. This combination creates an additional visual effect.

The first figure shows the disc with the main theme, while the second figure shows the combination of the main theme and the foreground.
